Being a parent can be one of life’s most rewarding experiences, but there are times in everyone’s life when the demands and hassles of daily living create stress and a sense of being overwhelmed. Parenting today can be a challenge. Wilmot Family Resource Centre is here to support you in your role as a parent. We all want a perfect family and we all worry about how our children will turn out. This in turn creates high expectations of how things should be. Remember – there are no perfect parents and no perfect children. There is no manual to pull out and follow step-by-step. Children will misbehave at times and parents will make mistakes. A parent’s goal is to raise well-behaved, responsible children – then they think they have succeeded in their task. Children who are loved, encouraged and allowed to grow at their own pace will develop healthy self-esteem and self-confidence. Learn to empower and influence your children instead of controlling them; teach them how to think, not just what to think. Learn to take time for yourself so that you can give to your children. |
