Healthy Start is a series of Relationship Skills programs for children and their families. This asset-building program equips children with healthy relationship skills to develop a solid foundation to serve throughout their life. The program’s pro-active focus instils a belief in themselves by giving children the ability to solve their own problems, make wise choices, and have the confidence for self-expression. As a result, family communication and parent-child relationships are strengthened. The Wilmot Family Resource Centre has offered this program in local school, daycares, parenting groups, and community settings since 1997 with amazing results. Sessions: · Making Friends: respect, manners, self-esteem · Feelings: identifying, understanding, and empathy · Listening / Communication: expressing, noticing others · Resolving Conflict: peacekeeping, problem-solving, decision making · Anger Management: self-awareness, making choices · Safety: personal and emotional safety · Bullying and Violence in the Media: optional in the parent program Children’s sessions include: · Discussion · Songs · Games · Crafts · Special ideas, such as the Peace Box, Feelings Cube, Puppets, and more Parent’s Sessions include: · Discussions · Support · Exchange of Ideas · Laughter “All feelings are Okay…as long as you do not hurt anyone or break anything.” |
